Reflecta/Braun Slidescan 4000 crashing on batchscan

Hi,
in 6.5.5r4 on Mac os x 10.4. (G4) I have some hassle batchscanning.
I guess it is not relating to multiexposure, 48bit as it had once.
Now the scanner would scan 1 to around 40 slides and then crash without any errormessage after placing the next slide into the scanner.
The last scan therefor is always completed, the scanner has proceeded to the next slide, then silverfast would simply disappear.
The launcher usually is not able to simply start silverfast back up.
CyberViewX has no problem accessing the scanner in this stage.
Sometimes it helps killing the silverfast launcher, starting the launcher and then starting silverfast. If it does not work starting up silverfast, the popup would say "searching for scanner", then crash silently.
Anybody out there with similar problems?
I have the scanner attached with 1394 right now.
On guess I would go for is trying a 1394 card in the system or a usb 2.0 card for connection, maybe the drivers are more of what silverfast expects.
The G4 silverline 2x800MHz does not have usb 2.0 onboard.
