Demo and full versions of SF-8 work well with 10.6.8, won't know how it works with Lion because I am not moving up to that OS until I buy new hardware...and I just bought new hardware. So far it looks good, not sure if it is $200+ more features over 6.6, but time will tell, especially when I get into big scan sessions.

Now, right off the top of my head, when ever I eject a slide / neg. from my 9000ED and put in a new one, I get a dialogue box that says that SilverFast is restarting, have to hit an OK button.

Also, where is the full user manual?

Hello there

There is no full user manual yet. There is a generic quickguide available at: http://www.silverfast.com/showdocu/en.html?docu=1166

Cheers

I'm glad SF8 worked for *someone*. I didn't have any such luck.

I have 10.6.8 (up to date) on a 2GB iMac driving a 9000ED, and I set up a 6x7 negative in the correct holder, and after 20 minutes waiting for the multi-exposure scan, right as it was supposed to write the file, SF8 said "scanner error F5", and wouldn't write the file. I then ran 6.6.4, and scanned the same slide w/o problem. After updating to 6.6.5, I also get the same "scanner error F5", which makes no sense. SF8 also crashes, a LOT, but at least can get through *some* 35mm film strips. SF8 also messes up a lot of scans, saving a block of a scan as expected, but the rest of the scan mutilated as though overexposed, reversed or something meaningless.

I don't see anything in the Info dialog about starting in 32 bit mode, so after wasting 12 hours messing around and losing my mind, I'm very frustrated. Do I have to uninstall every version of SF and start over from scratch, or is it hopeless?

I Mac 24 1st gen.

Mac OS X Lion (upgraded from Snow Leoapard)

Plustek 7500i + Silverfast SE Plus 8.0 (upgraded from Silverfast SE 6.6)

everything works as a charm. Silvefast did not start until I found this page, and read on how to start Silverfast in 32 bits.

yet to test new version of SilverFast fully, I've just checked it with scanning one of my negs. Interface looking better, finally!

THANKS!

I'm still on 6.6 since LaserSoft is a bit confused about the scanner I have - but for those of you running 8, can you speak to the general feel of the interface? I like what Silverfast offers me, but the whole interface seems very clunky - very odd in how it chooses which windows receive the focus, how it seems to ignore Apple standards for OSX applications (not to mention the occasional Kernal panic (see below). The odd Universal Launcher - not show stoppers but baffling. Like I said, the functionality seems very good but the entire interface seems to be really poorly designed. Is 8 more of the same or more fit and polish?
thanks
MC

Works for me under 10.7.2 for the most art. Sometimes the controls stop working, and often it will scan but never actually save a file. But when it works, it works. Using SE Plus.

Same problems here, but in regard of the multitasking advantages, this is a major step forward in usability and speed. Applying controls during pre-scan is a big advantage. I think I even was able to load the next slide while processing and writing of the previous scan was running. Hope that some flaws like lost settings or unresponsive controls will be eliminated over time. But for this complex piece of software this is a great piece of work!
