Your new login procedure is very uncomfortable!!!!!!!:
old version: i could see the current update version (i.e. 6.1.0r5)
before i have to login
new version: now i first have to login, insert Ser.Nr, username and
password, before i can see the current version.
<b>this sucks</b>.
it should be possible to show the current update version BEFORE login.
Thanks

This step is necessary in order to limit illegal usage of our software. From downloads and actual sales analysis it came clear that there's quite a significant number of people apparently using SilverFast with illegally acquired serials. This is intermediate step in order improve control over legacy of our software usage. The next obvious step is better protection in SilverFast itself.
I can see your point about the complicated procedure to find out if there is a new version out. I will discuss this issue internally.
Kind regards.
When will this be fixed?

I have three current versions of Silverfast and find the new login proceedure ill-concieved.
You must let us know that there is a new version available before you force us to go scrambling for serial numbers and pass codes.
And as far as security goes... Please be aware that as a long time user, I find that the only way I can keep current with Silverfast it to keep a Post-It note on my monitor with all three of my Silverfast serial numbers and pass codes.
I don't have to blatently expose this information with any other software, but Silverfast has made me scramble for this information so many times, that this is the only way I have found workable.
With Silverfast being "hardware specific software" the options for software piracy already seem to be limited. The password/login proceedure also should help. Adding the Serial Number to the login even deeper security... but doesn't some department there realize how much time and expense is being added to the cost of using Silverfast from the end user stand point?
Personally, there are times when I feel that I am spending about as much time hunting Serial Number and Login Information as I am using Silverfast.
Please fix this error in the login policy that requires loyal Silverfast users to enter serial numbers and login passwords just to find out if our Silverfast version is current or not.
Sincerely... Jb.

Dear Junebug.
The fastest and most comfortable method to check whether you have the newest version of Silverfast is the "WEB Update".

Have a nice Weekend!
Now there's another Problem

Thanks for suggesting that I use the web update but...
I have tried that twice in the past and I end up with the German version of Silverfast.
Not much help since I am half Tennessee HillBilly and half Polish.
Now what? Are the web programmers at least going to put the version number of the software you are about to download before we have to find and input all of our info?
Or would it be easier for me to learn German and use the web download version?
Still smiling, but these are honestly some Silverfast anoyances I have to face.
Jb.

is the number of the actual update version a secret,
is it too difficult for your programmers to insert the number into a html-page,
do you try to make the software update download from the Silverfast website as uncomfortable as possible to prevent customers from download an update here
or do you want to urge Silverfast-Users to use the WEB update
the problem is neither the ser.-no. nor the pw and username
i'm absolutly able to fill in a form, but every unnecessary login sucks
and above all i do not believe that the lack of the version number *before* login, limits illegal usage of your software. it rather limits the wish to buy your software again
WEB update:
1) i mostly check for an update at work, because the connection is much faster there and at work i have no SF installed. For me, WEB update is unattractive
2) before i trust "WEB update", i want to know what kind of information do you transmit ..

As a photographer who deals regualrly with copyright issues, I am all for the protection of intellectual property. However, I have to agree; Silverfast users should not have to go through the login routine just to find out if there is a new version to download. And, I have also wound up with German language versions through the Web Update feature.

I was getting German updates with the earliest releases of Web Update. this was fixed several weeks ago. I can now be confident of getting the English version every time.
I have three versions of SF Ai including: SF HDR, SF Ai NikonS and SF Ai Microtek. all three retrieve the correct language version of SF via Web Update.
I won't be using the web page to check for updates unless absolutely necessary. even without needing the s/n, user name and password and after saving the base URL for each type of SF, it was necessary to navigate through too many pages just to see if a new version had been released for my SF version/scanner type/computer platform/photoshop-or-twain.
regards
Gregory

dear all,
first of all, the file version (size and date too) are now displayed before the serial must be entered. I hope that helps, however the easiest way to check for updates is still through SilverFast itself.
We all hate extra logins and other type of barriers for legitimate customers, but please understand that from a developer's perspective some sort of protection is inevitably necessary these days. A better one and less annoying for legitimate customers protection is on the way, but for today we have this one.
Good scanning for everyone!

When I entered my serial numbers for all three versions from the original labels on the CD cases, it told me it was not a valid serial number. I then went to the program and used web update and that told me I was current and did not need a update.
Silverfast has everyones web address that is registered on this forum, and since we are all dedicated users I thought it would be nice for SF to send an e-mail notification when a new update is posted. This would eliminate all the serial number input BS which does not seem to work properly anyway.

I have quite a time keeping up to date on my s/w and was wondering if it is posted somewhere what the actual enhancements, fixes or whatever is included with and update.
Specifically, since up-grading to Panther, my scanner quit working. The SFE-6.1.0r7(HP-iSE) offered around the 1st of December did not help matters any.
I was sent a "test patch" which got my scanner back working in January.
Since then, LSI has updated the s/w without clarification five times
This is about 2 updates per month.. What did these updates correct, add or what have you?
To date, using the latest for my machine (V6.2.0r7) I am still having problems with scans hanging up and locking my machine.. The program will not "force quit" and I have to re-set my Mac. This also wreaks havoc on my file system and a couple of times had to resort to Norton's Disk Doctor for repair.
Just checked and found yet another update (V6.20r8) What is included in this update? Can anyone tell me?
Would it be too much trouble to post a description of changes included in these updates?

Try this link:
http://www.silverfast.com/show/history/en.html
This page has always given me an idea of what to expect. Most of the time the text is posted within 3-4 days of an update being issued (sometimes before, mostly after for my scanners).
