What is the meaning of the IT8 calibration in Silverfast HDR studio?
How to scan the target? I have to do it before in Ai studio?
The manuals do not explain the difference between Silverfast Ai studio e HDR studio on this topic.
There are too many versions of this program, only one manual, an the user is confused...

Yes, you scan it before in Ai Studio in 48 bit HDR format and open the raw file in HDR Studio to perform the color calibration

I would like to setup a workflow with two scanners (dedicated slide scanner + dedicated flatbed scanner) to produce 64 Bit HDRi TIFF files and then use HDR studio for all post-processing.

Searching the forum, I did find contradictory information in regards of where the IT8 calibration can take place:
(a) IT8 calibration must be done in Silverfast AI (Studio) IT8
(b) calibration can also be done in Silverfast HDR Studio

My questions:
1. Is the profile only attached to the 64bit HDRi file when scanning in Silverfast AI and can be added (if left out) or changed later on in HDR Studio? Or is it "calculated" into the numbers, hence applied in an irreversible way and must applied done during the scan itself.
Since the first option would allow me to batch scan mixed film types and then select the proper profiles later on.

2. Is HDR Studio also able to perform a calibration and create new IT8 profiles?
Or this is a functionality than can only be carried out using Silverfast AI (Studio) IT8 with existing profiles then later on being assigned in HDR Studio.

I'm having a little trouble grasping this concept -- sorry! Not with the Auto IT8 calibration, but with the IT8 calibration in HDR Studio. I have calibrated my Minolta 54000 II with the Kodak Ektachrome target and also with the Kodachrome target, since most of my slides are Kodachrome. I'm scanning to 48bit HDR. When I open these scans in HDR it should read the imbedded profile and know that, for example I've opened a Kodachrome scan -- correct? Then why do I need the IT8 calibration button in HDR? I played around with it and it looks for a target, same as in AI Studio. What is the purpose? Am I required to scan my targets to have a fully calibrated workflow with HDR raw scans? Just want to be sure I'm doing this correctly.

Do not complicate yourself.
The purpose of the IT8 calibration in HDR is exactly the same as in the scan software, create a calibrated ICC profile (for whatever your source is).

Imagine you have a friend constantly sending you pictures for editing. He/She scans with different scanners. To obtain a solid color reproduction, your friend sends you a raw scan (48 bit) of his/her IT8 target appart from the scanned pictures, in that way you can create a calibrated profile which you will be using for the editing the rest of the pictures.
