VLT/SF 8.5 HDR no longer recognizes HDRi RAW

Hi,
This evening I had a bad shock when opening SF 8 HDR. In the VLT, most image previews are no longer showing the HDRi RAW badge, and when I open one of these, and try an Auto CCR correction, the results are horrible. The only files which show HDRi RAW, and which process correctly, are files I previously worked on. As these were just a random selection to test that everything was ok from a major scanning batch, I am 99.9999999% certain that all images were scanned as 64bit HDR. But Silverfast doesn't even seem to recognise that they are SF HDR files. In fact the results of Auto CCR are very similar to doing an auto tone in Photoshop on a SF Studio HRD file.
I am running v8.5.0r7 - I initially downloaded v8.5.0r9, noticed the problem, and reverted to r7, but no change. OS is MacOS X 10.10.5.
It seems that SF HDR is not correctly recognising any HDR files which were not previously processed.
Can anybody offer any advice ?
