iSRD misalignment

Sometimes the infrared image is misaligned from the defects in the regular scan. But only sometimes. What would cause this?

Several devices scan the RGB and infrared channels in two separate scans.
In case the scanned material moves between scans a misalignment can occur.
This is especially the case at high resolutions because the infrared channel always has a lower resolution than the RGB image.

Movement of the scanned material seems unlikely. I'm using a frame holder for slides in an Epson V750. The scanner does do two separate scans for RGB and infrared, but it is undisturbed between scans. There was, briefly, a software issue in an early release of Silverfast 8 Ai Studio, whereby the two scans were misaligned, and this was quickly corrected by LSI. I am no longer having problems with misalignment if I scan and process entirely within Ai Studio. But if I scan to 64bit HDRi in Ai Studio and process in HDR Studio, then I get misalignment. Consequently I think this is a software issue, not an issue caused by movement between scans.

We are currently trying to reproduce this issue in our testing center.

If I can assist by sending you a file exhibiting the misalignment, please ask.

I have found a few more clues to the anomalous behaviour of HDR studio with respect to misalignment of the infrared and regular scans.
Because of the problems I have been having with HDR Studio, I have been using Ai Studio as a stand-alone. To my surprise I found I was occasionally having misalignment problems in Ai Studio as well. Not only that, but I found I could correct the misalignment if I adjusted the framing of the scan. (Which of course should have nothing to do with the scan alignment.)
So I went back into HDR Studio and found that if I adjusted the frame there, it also altered the degree of misalignment.
So, whatever the problem is, it does seem to have something to do with the frame.

Thank you for the hint.
I have forwarded your information to our developers.
This is in deed very interesting.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Any progress on this item? It would be real nice to be able to use my expensive scanning software and have iSRD work!!

Unfortunately we do not yet have a solution.
But this is being processed at high priority.

I am experiencing the same problem with HDR Studio. As soon as I change the frame in HDR there is a misalignment between defects and detected defects. From there on there is No Way to change this misalignement anymore. Very annoying, hope you find the bug rapidly. For the moment I am batch scanning HDRi but soon I will treat these HDRi scans in HDR Studio to remove the defects
I use a Slidescan 6000

Dear kleinjn,
Our developers are currently examining this issue.
They are currently checking the off-set correction and we will adjust that for SilverFast
HDR.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn

Is there any progress on the misalignment bug in HDR ans dust removal for the Epson scanners?
I am desperately waiting.
In my opinion It can't be too difficult, since the simple epson software does the dust romoval as expected.
But unfortunately that software has no HDR, so Silverfast would be of great help for me.
Kind regards and success,
Sjinual

Hello,
More than 2 months now that the problem has been raised! Is there still no progress on this item ?
Very disappointing.....
