Dear Rick,

sorry I can not open that link.

The image auto adjustment is located above the preview area.
It normally lists the type "Auto CCR".
This can be changed by holding the button for about a second.

kind regrads,
Arne Ketelhohn.

What the operation makes CCR? I think it simply automatically cuts edges of brightness diapason from min to max and set midtone point in half of diapason. But this thing will not help if your slide is underexposed and has narrow range of density. I've got some very dark BW negative films and my attempts to get good scans were failed. I've done a lot of experiments to solve the problem and found the next:
1. Plustek 8200i has good bright led lamp, and not this lamp is the cause of dark and low contrasted slides, but short exposure time (i was mistaken about lamp also, and even done more powerful LEDs light source)
2. In Plustek 8200i exposure time hard-adjusted only for good bright films, so as it takes 1/4 - 1/2 ADC scale, or 1000-2000 brightness levels. It's more than enough for good result. You can scan these in 24-bit mode. If you need in deep correction of your picture, scan it in 48-bit mode
3. If your film is dark and takes less than 1/16 ADC scale (less than 255 brightness levels), it's better to scan in 48-bit multi-exposure mode. When it does second scan it increases exposure time to 2-3 times and enlarges brightness levels in first scan to near 2 times also
4. If your film is dark and takes less than 1/50 ADC scale, you have hard case and you must increase exposure time manually. It is possibly and I do it.
So, how to define part of ADC scale? I do the next: i scan picture area in HDR mode, open histogram in photoshop and watch mean or median value in histogram then divide it on 256. Its my oriented point to choose how to scan this frame in further.
For example. I have one film take that has mean value =1 (1/256 ADC or 16 levels, it's very poor and black) in photoshop histogram. So I scanned it in 48 bit HDR Multi-exsposure mode and increased exposure time manually twice (because it does two scans). Result: mean value = 10 and near 300 brightness levels. It's enough to get not bad picture.

DEAR PROGRAMMERS!
GIVE US BIG GOOD-LOOKED BUTTON TO ADJUST HARDWARE EXPOSURE TIME IN EV PHOTO UNITS!
I know, you may do it. You do it in multi-exposure mode.

With best regards.
ps. Am i right supposing that plustek 8200i has 4095 brightness levels or ADC levels in non-multiexposure mode? (I decided so because it has dynamic range 3.6D). How much levels add in multi-exposure mode?

Dear customer,

SilverFast supports analog gain adjustment as long as the scanner hardware and especially the driver allow this.

For these devices the analog gain function can be found in the SilverFast preferences' "Special" tab.

For more information on the hardware capabilities of your Scanner please contact the device manufacturer.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

We are already in contact with Plustek about this issue.
They are currently analyzing their driver.

hello Arne

Plustek 8200ai (brand new) using latest version of Silverfast on Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I too have the dark slides issue. I tried the same machine and slides on a Windows7 workstation and same result - dark scans.

I can clearly see that there is an issue that you are aware of i.e. you have contacted Plustek about it.

Could you please outline (1) what the issue is and (2) What the current status of this issue is?

As you can imagine, for those of us who purchased this scanner on the basis that it is supported by current Silverfast software only to find it produces VERY dark scans is a huge issue, both for Plustek and for LaserSoft.

Thanks!
