LaserSoft Imaging

I bought the plustek 7200 film scanner w/ Silverfast 6.5 SE when on Win 7. But now I run Win 8.1 (which of course is un-supported by the manufacturer). As a possible workaround option I am wondering whether either of the two download options the website gives me will be of use. The SilverFast download options for my config are either:

1] Stand Alone / PS
or
2] The Twain version

Will either of these be of use for me on Win 8.1? (And what scanner hardware driver (generic or otherwise) would work and where would I download that from?)

Unfortunately we can not support this device because SilverFast too requires working drivers.

Then in that case should I:

a] Abandon / Destroy the Plustek scanner hardware and just invest into a new scanner + software

b] Keep the hardware because drivers etc. will become available for it (in the future) to work with my hardware

c] Invest into the latest version of SilverFast for other scanners I may already have (or could purchase)

waiting for drivers, probably is not a good idea.

Unfortunately getting a new scanner or an old operating system are the only possible solutions at the moment.
