LaserSoft Imaging

I bought this scanner to scan in negatives a couple of years back and have just today opened the box and started using it.

Mavericks 10.9
Bundled software: SilverFast SE 6.6

Firstly I could not get past first launch
Next I updated, using this file from this website: SFen-6.6.2r5(UScan-SE), still no launch
Updgraded drivers from Plusteks website
Finally downloaded the demo for SilverFast 8 and could actually scan something with watermarks

I do not want to purchase an upgrade of SilverFast 8 as it is well beyond my user requirements, I would rather use Photoshop which I am familiar with or at least Image capture, but it seems that the correct drivers are "locked' into the SilverFast 8 application, is this correct? If not, where can I get drivers which will make the scanner functional.

Also the IntelliScan and Quickscan buttons do not function at all...

your version of SilverFast 6.6 unfortunately does not support the operating system you tried to install it in.
Please upgrade to the latest version of SilverFast 8.0 if you want to use it with this OS.

Please note the sentence next to the product selection: "If you already got a SilverFast product, you might be eligible for a discount price for a new version by clicking here."
Follow the instructions and keep the serial number for your current product ready to calculate the upgrade prices.

Thanks for your response but this only addresses part of my question...

Is the Plustek 7600i SE driver locked into the SilverFast 8.0 software? Ie can I only use this scanner with this software?

I have image capture and Photoshop which I prefer to use, rather than spending money for software I don't need.

Dear customer,

Yes, SilverFast includes the driver.
There currently is no other driver available from the manufacturer.
The device does not support image capture.
