Issues on Mac OS X / Minolta DSE 5400

After having attempted to use Silverfast for the past week and no reponse from their support page, I thought I would post my issues with Silverfast SE on Mac OS X in this forum for further assistance.
I'm using a Minolta DSE 5400 (not II) connected via Firewire and the latest version of Silverfast SE (6.4.4r3). Also running Mac OS X 10.4.7.
1> An index scan has a 30-45sec pause before starting the scan. The Minolta software doesn't have this delay. Is there any way to avoid this.
2> I can't enable Digital ICE. When I select it, I get a popup
indicating that ICE is disabled for B&W film (even though I have a color
film selected).
3> I can't cancel a scan once I've started it. The application goes out
of focus and I have to wait about 20minutes for the entire scan job to
complete!
4> I'm getting the same error are reported in this forum:

Re-installed the software, the problem gets fixed, and after a system reboot, starts up again. It seems somewhat sporadic - is there a long-term fix for this?
