Planning on getting a new G5 system, but come of the compatibility problems are giving me pause.

Does anybody have any experience with the Polaroid Sprintscan 45 Ultra scanner in Panther? It does not seem to be on the panther supported list, and I am curious whether this is because of a known problem, or whether nobody has gotten around to testing it.

Thanks!

Dear bwatkins.

The Polaroid SprintScan 45 has been tested and verified on a G4 from our testing department. I see no problem on behalf of SilverFast to operate this scanner with a G5. If you can see the scanner in the Apple System Profiler, then SilverFast can see the scanner too.

Kind regards.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Just out of curiosity, what SCSI card was used on your G4 test system? Adaptec 2930? Since I am building the system from scratch, I would just as soon use a configuration that I know has been made to work.

Thanks again.

Dear bwatkins.

My dear colleague Mr. Sperling checked the Polaroid SS 45 u with: scsi card Acard 6712U ( firmware update 3.73 ) SilverFast AI 6.0.1r42a - Photoshop 7.1 - Mac G4 silver and Mac OS 10.2.4 a little while ago and everything worked fine.
We also made good experiences with the Adaptec 2930 on single CPU machines but my Dual CPU 800 Mhz G4 did not like that card at all.

Another good option is the new Belkin Firewire to SCSI adapter.

Kind regards.
