Hello,

a few days ago I downloaded the trial version of DCPro. However I cannot get it really to work on my files from a Finepix S2Pro:

In the preview the images always look terrible (no highlights, no blacks) and if I look in the histogram I see that only about 100 out of 256 levels are used for each channel. Of cause I can "fix" this using the sliders, but I lose more than half of the data in the image this way.

The files themselves are ok. The Fuji converter works great on them but I'd like to have all these additional gimmicks Silverfast offers and which I'm used to after using Silverfast and HDR for my Nikon scanners since years....

I chose not to use an embedded profile, but this makes no real difference.

what platform are you using? PC or Mac? If PC try to locate the Fuji generic profile supplied by SF (if it exists) in c:/windows/system32/Color and copy it into c:/windows/system32/spool/drivers/color. Then choose this profile in the SF CMS dialog in options. On my XP-PC the CMS dialog only listed the SF profile after that step. On my Mac I did not have that problem.

Maybe SF support want to change that.

I will talk to the installer guys to have that fixed, expect it to be solved in the next down?oadable version

Dear Niels,

no, unfortunately not at all.
Pictures still have an ugly colorcast (different than before). The Fuji profile is now reported as embedded in the CMS-tab.
I'm quite sure that this is the problem reported by Grappa as "gray images". The album-preview looks fine as long as the picturte is "scanned" within Photoshop.
The pictures look fine when converted by the Fuji converter. For now, the silverfast plugin is not an option for me - sorry.
Another disappointment is the fact that Silverfast makes no use at all of Fuji's Super-CCD.

please do not get me wrong.
I'm a long-time enthusiastic Silverfast user for my Nikon LS-4000, having bought the full palette of options plus HDR. Be sure, that I buy the DC-version as soon as you offer a preview that matches the original Fuji-converter in quality. The additional options surely would be worth the purchase for me. I'll certainly download a preview from time to time to see what's going on. However, I had preferred hering that a user (=my) error was the cause for the unsatisfactory results.

The same is with the Canon 10D Profile! I compared the result with crops from C1 and the original Canon-Converter, the result is catastrophic! My first Producht i bought from Lasersoft was Silverfast 3. But i find DC Pro is'nt worth to buy with this lousy profiles and i am sorry, i Did!

I'm happy I did not buy this but downloaded a trial version...the results are sooo bad that I feel this product is far from the time when it really should have been released. Basically what I see is a Silverfast HDR with a disastrous kind of raw converter that hardly deserves this name... its just so bad...

I'm a long time happy silverfast user but I really feel Lasersoft is wasting my time by even giving me this as a trial...

They should stop selling this and re-releasing it when it's working. At least for the S2 it's a bad joke and not a product.

It seems, like I need to explain some parts :
We don't use a 256 Level histogram. Internal we use a 65536 level histogram, 16bit. The camera use 12bit of this data, which is multiplied by SilverFast, so you could see some data. If you now stretch the contrast by moving the histogram sliders, you stretch the available 12bit data. You don't loose any data.
We are aware of problems with the ICC profiles. We will change this with the coming version 6.2. Then we have a different workflow for the data, a new interpolarisation, and you could use the superresolution (12 MPixel) within the S2. The speed of the conversation is much better.

Please wait for this upcomming version. This should be available in the next two weeks.

Well, the Pentax *istD converter is just as bad. Preview image is low contrast and way off colour. But, the processed image (tiff) is very saturated, especially blue colour, - the exact oposite of the preview.
What you see in preview is not what you get in the finished file.

This is not the way it should be. Out Preview concept shows the resulting imagecolor. The thumbnails are somtimes different (we working on that).

Could you send an screenshot and a resulting picture (jpg) to info@silverfast.de with the description of the problem, so we could have a look ?
