I'm running the 6.4 for the Howtek d4500. All is working great. scans, saves, everything. However, everytime i boot, XP 'discovers' the d4500 as a Howtek D4200 scsi scanner device" and starts the new device discovery process. There's not a .inf file to be found.. this happens 8 times in a row (i need to hit cancel each time). After this, everything's fine.. until the next reboot.

At the end of the process of windows looking unsucessfully for a driver, there is a checkbox " do not install drivers for this device". Please check this box, and at the next startup you should not be bothered anymore...

Then there is one more work-around.
You can try to make windows believe your scanner is actually a different device (I have done this with by choosing "Epson LQ-series printer", or "Umax scanner" ). It wil install the driver for this device- and not ask for a driver at startup anymore. If your scanenr is one of those models that show up 8 times on the SCSI bus, you will be prompted to do this 8 times though. But once its done it won't happen again. Silverfast does not use the driver, so it won't affect the actual function of your device.
