Defective Dual Scan III after use of SF AI / Coincedence?

I bought SF AI 6 for my Minolta Dual Scan III last week.
Unfortunately the first day after purchase I ran in problems with scanner functionality. After about 2h of use (the 2nd hour without scan activity, just switched on) the scanner case became very very hot and it smelled like something has melted on an electronic board.
After cooling down the scanner had been working again, but at a higher noise level! And I also have fear, that heating up will come again.
Concerning this matter I have a question about bulb brightness control of silverfast software. In SF AI there a button for an automatic setting of bulb brightness. Unfortunately I didn't find further informations about the functionality of this button. Is it possible, that the scanner is becoming more hot with SF than with Minolta scanner software?
Maybe it's just a coincedence and the problems are totally independend from SF, but it's a bit suspicious, that it happened the 2nd day of silverfast usage.
