When installing, the installer moved Minolta support components from the CFM Support folder in the Library to the trash (the SCSI, Firewire, and USB bundles and two libraries). These components are apparently necessary to operate the scanner.

Why were they moved to the Trash?

I have noticed the exact same thing.

Furthermore, when I tried to empty my trash, it won't let me because those files are either in use (ie, when I have Silverfast open) or they are shared. In fact, the only way I was able to delete them was to use "secure empty trash." When I did that, it screwed everything up - I couldn't even open the Silverfast, both in Photoshop CS and as a stand-alone product. So I then uninstalled and re-installed everything, and again, those same files were in the trash. This time, I just created a folder and stuck them with the other Silverfast folders. I was able to open the Silverfast application, but when I'm in Photoshop, and I load in new film for the first time and ask for new thumbnails, it'll crash and say "Could not complete the import command because of a problem with the acquisition module interface." So I'd have to go and open the stand-alone, close it, go back to Photoshop CS, open the plug-in, and it would be ok. A big PITA!!

So...tonight, I uninstalled everything and re-installed again, and just left that stuff in the trash (the files that Silverfast moved to the trash automatically). So far I have not had problems with crashing.

Long story short...I too, want to know what's up with moving those files to the trash when they obviously seem necessary. And where should we put them since they can't be emptied from the trash??

Problem solved by Support - installer is just making sure that the components in the system is the most recent; if you reboot, you can then delete those files.
