Ability to use multiple scanners!

I know SilverFast has been set up like this forever and you are comfortable with this paradigm but, now that I have purchased a recent upgrade in order to add Kodachrome calibration to my old LS-2000 scanner, and realizing my scanner is not as good as it once was prompting me to think about buying a newer model, I see a real need for you to consider changing your minds.
Please figure out a way for customers to use SilverFast on more than one scanner. I understand that the software is tailored to work with each scanner individually which is why you must specify the hardware before purchasing the software. However, if you created a BASE software that then could be customized by simply adding to it the hardware specific pieces, then a customer would not have to continually purchase the software when hardware changes.
If a customer's hardware fails and they upgrade to a new scanner, they have now lost the hundreds of dollars they have spent on one hardware-specific version of SilverFast only to have to purchase it again. This is good for LaserSoft but really bad for customers.
Clearly you have a software that is usable across multiple hardware, otherwise no one would be able to use it on anything but one specific scanner. You must then compile it or add items to it to then be specific for each supported scanner. You obviously do not rewrite the base code every time for hundreds of scanners. That would really be silly. You create the scanning and image manipulation pieces and then add the hardware specific pieces, right?
If this is the case, then you should be able to figure out a way to create a base software that EVERYONE purchases and then a hardware overlay that each individual customer purchases for their specific hardware. Then, if the user had a hardware failure and needs to buy a new scanner, they could now purchase a new overlay to update the software for the new hardware without needing to re-purchase the entire software again.
This would be similar to the way in which you provide updated NegaFix profiles. You don't force customers to buy SilverFast every time a customer wants to scan another type of negative. Why not do the same thing with hardware?
Please consider figuring out a way for users to be able to use multiple scanners without needing to buy your software over and over and over.
Thank you for considering this.
