icc profile for specific C-41 film and lighting conditions

I would like to see the capability to generate an icc profile for color negative film. I realize that such a profile would only be limited to images that are captured under the same exposure and lighting conditions as the negative used to generate the icc profile. However, such a feature would still be of value provided that the photographer took a picture of a color profile chart under the same lighting conditions and exposure as the subject images. Such a software feature could be developed to work for any one of a number of commercially available color charts, such as a QPcard, for example. I know that such a product is available from Pictocolor, but it is my understanding that this is a plug-in to Photoshop, it is not a standalone application, and would be used after the scanning process for film users. I don't believe that the Pictocolor approach is best for film users because the scanning process adds another level of variability. However, if this software feature could be built into Silverfast whereby a specific profile is built for a particular type of negative film for a particular type of lighting condition and exposure, then I think such a solution would indeed work well, and provide those who prefer using C-41 film with the same level of color management as those using E-6 film.

Seth

Dear Seth,

the problem we face here is that the C41 process is far less stable and controlable than the E6 process.
So it would not make much sense to calibrate, this is why there is Negafix whhich gives you the possiblity to convert Negatives and remove colorcast.
If the Filmtype you want to scan is not yet implemented in SilverFast or very old so that we could not measure it for NegaFix you can use the Expert Dialog to create your own profile that suites you.

Thank you, Mr. Lübker.

By the way...I hope SilverFast will provide a profile for the newly announced Kodak Ektar 100 when it becomes available.
