multi sampling NUDGE option on Epson 4990

Hi to all at the forum.

I have an Epson 4990 and scan large format transparancies at a resolution of 2400dpi in 16bit mode. The scan size is 498MB. despite having 4gb of ram, a 2.4ghz dual core processor, a 250gb hard disk and setting up a separate hard disk partition for Silverfasts Scratch Disk for multiple samples, & increasing virtual memory to its maximum in Windows. If I multi sample 8 times or more the resulting scan is blurred as the system is struggling to compute the large amount of data. Reducing the scan resolution to 1800dpi or less cures this problem.

It would be nice to have a manual alignment option either in Silverfast or HDR where the resulting multiple scans can be nudged/aligned by hand using the arrow keys.

I can see this being a completely separate software application, but wondered if anyone else had encountered this issue

Dear scovell001

actually, I think this rather sounds like a software bug in proper alignment of the multi-scanned images because they deviate too much from a common point of origin in pixels, because of the high resolution.

However, this should not occur.

Please don't hesitate to contact support: http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html
to have this examined closely. Thanks very much in advance for your assistance :D

Multi-Sampling with Epson 4990

Dear scovell001,

have you tried the SilverFast SE Plus or Ai STUDIO version. The Multi-Sampling in those version has an Auto-Alignment feature that takes care of the offset. You can try the demo and upgrade your version to either SE Plus if you have SilverFast SE or to the Ai Studio version if you have SilverFast Ai.

Find more info on our patented Multi-Sampling here: https://www.silverfast.com/show/newsletter200608/en.html :P
