Hallo,

I use the genial Silverfast Ai SE PUS for my a Minolta Multi Pro. I am very pleased with the results, above all with the ICE results of silverfast software. Unfortunatelly I cannot eliminate banding when I use Scanhancer 5LE, because calibration occurs in Silverfast Ai without scanhancer 5LE in the light path. v**s**n can do this with a simple trick like Erik described it at his site http://www.scanhancer.com/index.php?art=2&men=3 . v**s**n calibrates the scanhancer optimally, cause the scanhancer is in the light path during the calibration process. The scans are absolute free of banding. My question: can you build in Silverfast Ai this calibration modus? Many Minolta scanner ? Scanhancer freaks would like then to work with silverfast surely, because it delivers the best results.

why not simply having the "Scanhancer" thingie in the scanner while calibrating with SilverFast? Seems this essentially is what is proposed on the referenced webpage.

Do you mean with ?Scanhancer thingie? the platelett called Scanhancer IR, which is to build in the scanner steadily. Yes with this thing Silverfast calibrates right with the Scanhancer in the light path.

What I meant is the calibration with the Scanhancer plate called Scanhancer 5LE, which is inserted in the filmholder. When I calibrate Silverfast, the filmholder will be removed. I beg for the possibility to calibrate while the filmholder is in the scanner, respective in the lightpath, like v**s**n does.

You may say: ?Then build Scanhancer IR steadily in the scanner.? This is only a partial solution. But I need in addition the Scanhancer 5LE for the excellent grain reduction, what Scanhancer IR cannot perform as perfectly as 5LE can. And there are many Silverfast users who make use of Scanhancer 5LE and vote against the installation of Scanhancer IR in the scanner.

You will do a great pleasure to many Silverfast-Minolta-Users, if you enlarge Silverfast with the proposed function. I thank you very much for your effort.

I am sorry, but I still fail to understand the problem you're facing.
On the <a href="http://www.scanhancer.com/index.php?art=2&men=3">webpage referenced above</a> it is explained that the problem is a hardware issue firstplace.
Then it is shown using the v**s**n software as an example how to get a calibration scan from the scanner while having the "Scanhancer" equipment in the scanner.
I think you simply can follow the steps 1-3 as described and you do steps 4-6 accordingly with SilverFast.

Can it be that I misunderstood you? I am not an experienced user of v**s**n, you see. But am I right to suppose that the "calibration" layout out in step four in the "How do I avoid banding (streaks) in my scan?" of the "Scanhancer" page has nothing to do with profiling the scanner by using an IT8 target and accompanying reference file, but is the scanner's internal function to (re-/)calibrate against a white-point / black-point [light on on white surface and black surface or light on and off] target which is simply triggered by v**s**n here, but is a basic function performed by many scanners prior the actual scan anyway?

thank you very much for your patience to understand my request.

When I calibrate the Minolta Multi Pro Scanner in Silverfast Ai by Optionen/Spezial/Scanner Re-Initialisieren the filmholder with the Scanhancer plate in it comes out of the scanner unit and the reinitialising takes place without the Scanhancer plate in the light path. So unfortunately calibration is done without the Scanhancer in the light path, so the CCD will still compensate, thus causing 'compensating bands'.

v**s**n solves the problem as described:

4. Start up v**s**n and choose Calibrate from the Device menu.

5. v**s**n will prompt you to remove the film holder and to click 'Yes'. Don't! Instead of removing the holder, you insert the MF glassholder that you have prepared with the Scanhancer. Now click 'Yes'.

6. v**s**n will start its calibration process and automatically make adjustments to the Scanhanced light. When it is finished press the eject button and remove the medium format holder. You can now start to use the scanner to your liking with either 35mm or medium format.

Analog the suggested workflow in Silverfast:

4. Start up Silverfast and choose Optionen/Spezial/Scanner Re-Initialisieren.

(the filmholder removes, but Re-initialisierung doesn`t start at once.)

5. Silverfast will prompt you to remove the film holder and to click 'Yes'. Don't! Instead of removing the holder, you insert the MF glassholder that you have prepared with the Scanhancer. Now click 'Yes'.

(Silverfast automatically removes the filmholder still now. Now it is possible to let it removed during calibrating in the usual manner and click ?yes? or to insert it again and click ?yes? to calibrate with the Scanhancer in the lightpath.)

6. Silverfast will start its calibration process and automatically make adjustments to the Scanhanced light. When it is finished press the eject button and remove the medium format holder. You can now start to use the scanner to your liking with either 35mm or medium format.


I am being ready to test a Beta Version of Silverfast Ai with the changed reinitialisation function.

this unfortunately cannot be done. SilverFast drives the scanner by using the Minolta SDK. There's no such command available.
I suspect v**s**n kind of accesses the scanner in a more direct manner, thus being able to achieve some actions with it that aren't provided already by the scanner manufacturer's programming interface.
