Single-pass scanning with Job Manager

I'm a newbie so perhaps I'm ignorant of how to do this.

I have an Epson 4180 and I am scanning slides with it. The job manager simplifies this except that I believe for each frame the scanner returns to the "home" position and then repositions to the next frame. This results in a lot of back and forth activity. In fact, I think the backlight is also turned off then on.

Since the slides are all consecutive, why can't the scanner simply skip between the frames instead of all the back-and-forth motion.

Mike,

That is a good question, I have noticed the exact same thing with my 4990. Does the same thing happen when you use Epson Scan?

Maybe the scanner calibrates before the scan of a new image? I notice that before SF begins a new scan (new image on a negative strip) it performs a kind of homing/calibration procedure...
