Support for Digital ICE4 on the Nikon LS9000

I would like to request that SilverFast Ai Studio be enhanced to provide full support for the implementation of Digital ICE on the Nikon LS9000ED.

The following is a quote from the Kodak (ASF) Web site regarding Digital ICE on the LS9000.

"Note: Additionally, the Super Coolscan 9000 ED DIGITAL ICE4 Advanced Technology contains a special optimized version of DIGITAL ICE Technology called "DIGITAL ICE Professional Technology", which provides more robust compatibility to work with KODACHROME film types."

http://www.asf.com/products/ICE4/ICE4_overview.shtml

This additional support for Kodachrome is provided via a special ICE 'mode' that avoids the usual problems of using IR cleaning on Kodachrome. This works extremely well with Kodachrome, but ONLY when using Nikon Scan 4.02. Sadly SilverFast can not, or does not enable this additional feature.

If the Nikon MAID SDK exposes this option for Kodachrome 'mode' on the LS9000 I believe it would be a major benefit to SilverFast to include support for this capability.

Happy Christmas to all at LaserSoft,

Dear Trevor

thanks very much for your inspiration. Your idea has been entered into our internal development databases. Thus, some future version of SilverFast might feature a Kodachrome specific mode.

Have an especially happy, healthy, and interesting new year :)

From the release notes for SilverFast 6.4.3r9
General: It's now possible to choose Kodachrome instead of the normal Positive setting in the Pos./Neg. popup. With the LS9000 this will enable the use of the DIGITAL ICE Professional Technology as a part of the ICE4 Technology, which is targeted to scan KODACHROME images with ICE. Additionally it's now possible to choose a special input ICC profile in the Options dialog, that will only get used when Kodachrome is selected (this options is only shown in the Options dialog, if Kodachrome is selected).

What can I say, other than an enormous thakyou :D

This sort of response to requests via this forum is just an indication to me how seriously LaserSoft take suggestions and requests from their customers. Just outstanding!

I am at work now but will download this update as soon as I get home and do some testing. I can't wait to see the results.

Once again, a big thankyou to all the development and support staff at LaserSoft.

Best Regards,
Trevor White

Have just tried out the new 'Kodachrome' settings in 6.4.3r9

The results were outstanding! Very sharp and clean scans using either Digital ICE Standard or Digital ICE Fine. No sign of the corruption and halo's that were previously being caused by using ICE on Kodachrome.

I particularly like the way you have implemented the Kodachrome options and CMS options. All in all a fantastic result.

SilverFast Ai Studio and the Nikon LS9000, and outstanding combination.
