Export Negafix profile

If the software allowed users to export / import negafix profiles, then you could host a selection of user calibrated profiles, e.g. I spent hours getting Reala on the Canon 9950 right - and wouldn't mind sharing...

Just my 0.02c

Dear Nicol

I'd like to thank you for your backup, because that exactly is what I suggested to develop a couple of months ago in our internal projects database :D

The more others users would show interest (e.g. here or in support emails), the higher the priority of such feature requests get.

Meanwhile, please note that the profiles are saved to the SilverFast preferences files and can thus be shared already by now, although not separate from other settings :-?

Although the software quality has got better a lot for scanning color negative (Epson 4870, Nikon LS 8000 Neg.Direct Mode), there still are situations for individual corrections. I less use the negafix profiles, but individual curve settings in the normal curve dialog, where you can store just a bigger number of curves. The problem is how to save these settings, if you do a reinstallation of the software. So I save expert dialogs and screenshots of the settings in the tools for critical film situations "really outside the software". Otherwise I could not use the informations when I change between the MF Glass-Holder and the Glassless-holder scanning images from the same series on the LS 8000. A really working method more elegant to this workflow would be fine.

Dear Ogando

basically the "method" of saving the curves, etc is like above, i.e. you want to copy the prefs files to your new SF installation.

However, we are about to introduce a new prefs framework which would probably allow exporting the individual adjustments into separate files.
Stay tuned...

Dear Sonny Noack,

that?s fine. So in the future we can keep individual adjustments even, when prefs are damaged and we have to replace them.

Greetings Ogando

Dear Ogando

exactly that is one of the main reasons besides the exchangability of settings and Negafix profiles between users and / or workstations.

Just a question to this topic in addition:

As mere user that I am, I assume to notice that the values for the grey mid pip and the selective correction aren?t listed in the expert dialogue.

Would it be possible to create an expert dialogue with profile export function as already planed but with additionaly with all the values SilverFast is using in total?

If not now but for the next main upgrade maybe it could be sensfull to add these informations for selective corrections and mid grey pip to the list of the list-design of the expert dialogue as well?

This is my workflow and the reason why I am asking:
Software greybalance seem to work different to the fix filter values in the analogue laboratory. It seems to be influenced much more by the changing of colors of little scenerey details in the same basic situation.
In these situations I maintain the same curve settings for the skin tone in (SF-Ai), but the software interpretation of the studio-background?s grey-paper is jumping crazy around (maybe depending on colored cloths reflecting on the paper?). So I have to use the selective correction additionally without changing all the other values including the grey mid pip I use for "fine-centering" the operating range of the software (plus IT8 for the SF-Ai and a profile for the HDR-Studio, wether scanning in SF Ai or in the HDR Studio for digitals with simple white balance presets on location or wether working in 48 Bit HDR with activated click box for 48 Bit HDR output or not).

So if I work on different series from time to time (when the preview cache has already changed), it would be easier to return to the staus quo if the expert dialogue would contain all the facts of the previous situation. (Actually I have to do some screenshots to keep the whole content).

Export Negafix profile

I'd like to have this feature, too. It would be a powerful way to increase the availability of film profiles by allowing users to share custom profiles with each other. It would also make backup of custom profiles much easier and more reliable than saving the preference files.

Anthony
