OK.. Am I the only one needing something this? Read On...

I own three separate packages of Silverfast, since version 3.0. Now Silverfast versions are 5.5 and some up to revision 19.

Each time I have installed a new version or revision the serial numbers, upgrade numbers for IT-8, etc. are lost and have to be reentered.

To add to the frustration. Each scanner has to be IT-8 recalibrated, all preferences, and custom settings are lost and need to be reconstructed and re-saved too.

This has led to:

1. Not being able to remember where or what my current serial numbers are. I've lost time and when I made the mistake of updating on a weekend.. the loss of days until I could make a call to Silverfast.

2. I almost went nuts when I couldn't remember where I filed my IT-8 targets. It took a week to relocate them.

3. Losing my custom made settings are the biggest concern. It's like losing everything I have learned in the past about making Silverfast sing, and all my newest settings-in-progress dissappear too.

I for one would like to see a good installer on the next revision of Silverfast before anything else gets fixed.

Am I alone in this matter?
Friends of Silverfast, Please Respond.

No, you are not the only one. I think you just pointed out a minor but annoying problem that should not be too difficult to fix.

I agree: at least minor version upgrades should preserve customization, and one IT8 serial number should do for all upgrades. How to enter that number should be explained in SF's Manual, not on a single language (German) leaflet.

You,ve written that a few times over recent months. I just checked and the 3 copies of V4 and 5 that I can find (Epson, Nikon, Polaroid, I have more ) are all in English! They came in the box along with the IT 8 slide/print and ref files floppy disk ( you don't get that now).

The last version I received was V5.5 HDR with IT8 and JM. The package contained 2 CD's - one for SilverFast and the other called Feature CD with IT8 and JM included. On that second disk is a PDF readme file that describes EXACTLTY what needs to be done to get IT8, etc working. I think they listened to your earlier complaint but forgot to tell you they had done so

Ian, you're right, there are many questions on this Forum that are left unanswered by LSI. A knowledgeable and ever present insider, like Chris Cox on Adobe's Photoshop Forum, is very much missed here.

Thank You.

Just returned from a photo shoot in Dallas and had to scan 47 transparencies before FedExing later today.

I was about 3 or 4 Silverfast updates back on my Macintosh/Nikon LS-2000 scanner, but this job was important enough for me to install the update to 5.52r2. I gathered my calibration transparencies, serial numbers and finall went through all my custom settings, writting down what each name and what they did....

With churning stomach, I installed the update and to my great surprise and joy... No serial numbers to reinput, no recalibrating, no recreating my custom settings and preferences.

Thank you Silverfast crew for correcting and working on your Silverfast for Macintosh Installer.

Sincerely... Junebug

ps... this also worked on my Epson Flatbed and HDR Silverfast updates

SilverFast still Needs A Nudge

Point 1. It is common to scan several transparencies at the same CROP and resolution settings.

Point 2. With a tight crop, the prescanned image of each slide shifts. (maybe the slide mount seats a little differently... whatever)

Sore Point: It is hard, time consuming, and tedious, to move the overall "crop" just that little bit each time.

Score a Point: Have the arrow keys "Nudge the Overall Crop" up, down, left, right... just a bit... Can this be done? Is it being considered?

Regards to all,

Hi,
you wish a simple way to adjust the crop. I wish even more. Several month ago I submitted the topic "auto frame..." (I called it frame, what you call crop.)But I agree, that moving the edges with cursor keys would be nice also.
