Dear LSI staff:
Thanx so much for such a great product!
just wondering if u will support adobe jpeg2000 lossless compression (please?!)? that would be great for those 48-bit HDR archives.
how about being able to save as psd from job mgr.
... being able to change densitometer read-out to other choices while in histogram window (eg, from cmyk to total ink or grayscale, etc.). i work around it now by setting 2 points for the highlight & 2 for shadow areas & having them read out differently before going into histogram, but that still limits one to 2 read-outs.
... multiple preview windows to view GANE choices side by side & bigger windows.
... being able to apply GANE, USM, or descreen in separate RGB channels also. have "up to" AND "down to" tonal range sliders for more targeted moves.
... being able to apply GANE within selective color range (eg, a lot more grain shows up in skies. why not GANE it w/o softening image details elsewhere?) ? then being able to select inverse & run USM on the remaining image details.
... add highlights soft to USM choices. btw, "sharpen from" for slides is in the manual but not the Ai nor HDR software (?). from what i've seen, grain shows up more in lighter areas.
... being able to turn the scanner lamp off while one is spending time experimenting & tweaking

btw, when will USM be implemented in the GANE filter? (i hope you include it on the Ai Polaroid SS4000 & 4000+ and the HDR software as well) why is there no GANE radius setting, no USM sharpen from on this unit?

Kind Regards,
tricia

Dear Tricia,

First of all, thanks for your feedback. Such comments help us to improve our products. The development team is already working on some features or improvements which you propose.

when will USM be implemented in the GANE filter?

As soon as possible :D , but I can't tell a fixed date now.

(i hope you include it on the Ai Polaroid SS4000 & 4000+ and the HDR software as well)

It will be available in all SilverFast versions.

why is there no GANE radius setting, no USM sharpen from on this unit?

GANE sets automatically the filter radius, that's why it is a hidden parameter.

Thomas,
glad 2 hear it.
what about jpeg 2000? will SF support it? est. target date?
btw, i've tried saving in jpeg from SF HDR in std. & optim., but PS 7 will not open them, giving an error msg. that "the file specifies an unsupported JPEG precision." can u address that?

SilverFast (Ai + HDR) are able to write JPEG files with a bit depth of 12 (36 bit per pixel), which is not supported by the majority of programs, including PS7. This will be done automatically if you set the Image Mode to e.g. "48 Bit Colour". If you set the Image Mode to "48->24 Bit Colour", SilverFast will write JPEG files with a bit depth of 8, which will be readable by every program.
The option to write 12 bit JPEG files is mainly useful in the Ai version - you can scan your images in e.g. "48 Bit HDR Colour" and most of the details and bit depth will be preserved, but producing much smaller files (compared to TIFF output).
