NegaFix doesn't work well with images of models shot against a white background. I would like to see the range of the Auto Tolerance slider increased so that the white points in the histogram can be heavily clipped. To work around this problem, I've increased the "exposure compensation" slider to about 2.4 stops. I don't know if that's the proper way to handle the problem. Also, I noticed that when I use the standard levels tool, the NegaFix histogram doesn't get updated. The problems I'm having with high key images may also be present with low key images.

Roger,

Since my hihg-key advice on a previous post, I've learned how to fix this problem. I solved it by doing this:

1: Adjust the Exposure up a little higher (around 1.0-1.5 should do it) but don't max it out at 3.0

2. Go into the gradation adjustment settings (the line graph-looking icon) and set the black point/shadow slider all the way to -50

3.Set the brightness slider close to or all the way to 100.

4. Now make your final adjustments with the mid-tone slider in logarithmic mode.

Yes, it could be easier, but NegaFix is brand new, and until they fix this issue, this is the way to do it.

I assume that low-key photos would just be the same, except with the sliders reversed. I haven't had any problems with low-key negs yet, though.

Hope this helps,

Ian

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it didn't work for me. I was better off running the exposure compensation slider up 2.5 stops or so. But I'm color blind and have to set colors "by the numbers." So, I'm reluctant to do anything out of the ordinary as I can get into trouble real fast before I know it. I have this feeling that there's something magical in NegaFix that keeps the colors in balance and that overdoing the exposure compensation slider might mess that up. In any event, that does work for me better than you method, so I'll stick with it. Would be nice if NegaFix could handle high key, though. Other than that, it seems to do a pretty good job.
