Canon 8400F and Windows 7 64-bit

Hello,
A question I am unable to have answered elsewhere: I have a Canon 8400F that I use infrequently with my Windows 7 64-bit PC. Although the drivers are occasionally flakey, it works well in this environment, scanning through Scangear and Photoshop CS4.
I have heard about Silverfast and am looking to trial it to see if I can get improved colour quality in my scanning.
I notice however, that a Silverfast application is only available for 32bit versions of Windows... unlike newer Canon scanners which have 64bit versions available.
Is there a technical limitation preventing a 64 bit version for the 8400F being produced? The Canon supplied drivers do otherwise work identically to the 32bit versions.
Please note - installing a 32bit version of Windows is not an option in my environment - I am running a computer with 6GB of RAM.
