Dear Peter,
i am still baffled by the thing that happens on your machine !
To answer your Question:
As OSX did not bother to implement an uninstall mechanism, we have to do it manually...
To clean up in the best way, we need to delete 2 folders:
-1- The Application itself, if you do not have other Silverfast Versions, just delete the complete "/Applications/SilverFast Applications" Folder
-2- The Preferences of SilverFast and the Launcher ( again, only if you have only one Version of SilverFast, otherwise we have to be more selective ): Delete the folder "/Users/XX_YOURNAME_XX/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging"
Then reinstall the current release of SilverFast and give it a try !

Nils Heidorn

Hi Nils,
thank you. I deleted all the Silverfast and LaserSoft stuff on my computer (I also had some files in my Application Support and in my Main Library). After that I installed the brand new 6.5.5r2 Version. The first scan was good, the second "gave me the blues" again ;)
But I tried some other things and I was able to reproduce the blue colours another way round. What I did was:
1. start SF Launcher
2. set to transparency/negative
3. did a preview
4. set colourdepth to 48bit (instead of 48->24)
5. did the scan (saved as .tif)
6. inverted the colours in photoshop (+i)
The result was an Image in the same (or at least almost the same) blue colours.
Maybe the problem is not the scanner or the silverfast itself, but the combination of film, scanner and software? I'm scanning only pics I shot with my Holga-Camera (which has a 'natural' vignette-effect) - so there is a large amout of black in the corners of the picture. The film I use is a FUJI PRO 400H.
thank you, greets, peter.

Dear Peter,
which Profile do you select in SilverFast to make your film look best ?
I am just trying to reenact your problem here...

Hello Nils,
you find my standard-settings in the screenshot below. I've also tried not to use NegaFix, but there are also blue scans without it.
greets, peter.

Dear Peter,
can you PM your mail adress ?
I i had no luck in simulating your problem, so i am hoping for a usage problem, lets discuss this via PM, if there *is* a Bug i will post the solution here, otherwise i will post here that it is solved and was a usage Problem :-)
Greetings,

I have encountered the same problem lately, that's why I'm reading these posts. It appears that there has not been a final solution to this problem, or is it fixed with the new releases of SF?

Dear haramo,
the problem is / was that (nearly) noone had this problem including our test setups, and if yoo cannot reproduce an error its nearly impossible to fix it.
You could help by letting me know when exactly it happens and when not, so we can try to better simulate your situation !
( together with type of Computer and version of SF that you're using ).
Did you update to the latest web version ( 655r4 ) anf give it a try ?
Greetings,
Nils Heidorn

Hi Nils,
I did the upgrade yesterday after my post. I deleted the LaserSoft folder and the color profiles before installation. It worked fine for two or three negatives, than the blue cast appeared again.
Even the first scans appeared more crisp and clear in the enlarged preview window than in the actual scan, but acceptable. This is really frustrating.
I have scanned many films with SF 6.4SE under OS X 10.5 and that worked great, that's why I bought the SF upgrade.
I understand that you cannot fix a problem you can't see. I'll experiment a little over the weekend and report next week. Anything specific that I should look for?
I never have the problem scanning positive, reflective images. Using Apples ColorSync utility I found the SF profiles corrupted (see attached picture).
Greetings
Harald Moehser

this blue tint happens to me.
I use silverfastSEv6.4.4r4. canon8600F
the tint occurs when I scan 120 film mostly.
the tint occurs when the colour of a prescan looks fantastic (typical) ie when the neg looks perfectly exposed.
I tried to download an update but GUESS WHAT i have to buy it.
Your choice of making this a silent rerelease is abhorent. this has lead to weeks of confusion. you should recall your software from the canon series.
No that I have found out the secret what do you recommend to help me?
your faithfully Sam
p.s. I have further questions.
2) why do all scans 35mm/120 (all different brands) always scan with alot of reds in the midtones and what should I do about this?
3) how can I stop silverfast shutting down everytime I make one scan?
