Microtek 120tf: Interesting discovery...!

Hi!
While doing some researching about the "Softbanding-Problem" on the Microtek 120tf and the Polaroid Sprintscan 120, I discovered that when turning off the "Autofocos"-Feature and using the MF-Glassholder, Negatives came out considerably SHARPER than those with the feature turned on.
Give it a try! You'll be surprised!

Dear Nitro,
thanks for your interest in SilverFast and for your proposal. As I already wrote it in another posting concerning the "soft banding" problem, we will investigate this issue again.
I just have a few complementary questions: do you observe that the sharpness gets increased only with the following configuration: auto-focus switched off, negative mode, glass holder? Or is it true according to you for other configurations? This proposal (autofocus off) does not affect the "soft banding" problem, does it?
Best,
Thomas

I haven't the scanner near me right now, so I can't check all your questions at the moment. All I can say is that I scan my B&W-Negs as Positives - with the AF turned off. But I don't know if turning off the AF will affect the Banding-problem. I'll check that later!
Best wishes,
Nitro

Dear Nitro
your observation unfortunately cannot be back by our testers (tried with different systems). Can it be your scanner's auto-focus has become defective?
Best regards
