If I scan a color or b-w negative in an HDRi mode, is there any other piece of Silverfast software I need to take full advantage of the resulting file and its multiple layers of scanning info? Or is a current version of Adobe Photoshop adequate?

The 16, 48, 64 bit HDR(i) formats are archive files for our SilverFast ArchiveSuite Workflow.
They are intended to be processed using SilverFast HDR Studio.

If you are scanning for Photoshop please use the fully processed formats.
These are also rendered into a color-workspace Photoshop can understand.
This is not the case with the device color profiles embedded into HDR(i) files.

Arne,

Thank you for the answer. It is very difficult to figure out how all the pieces of your software work together from your web site or documentation. I'm reminded of the blind men feeling different parts of an elephant and making pronouncements on what type of animal each person is imagining.

I use Silverfast at the University and at home with my Plustek scanner. Do I need to repurchase this SilverFast ArchiveSuite Workflow or is there an upgrade from SIlverfast 8 SE Plus that will include the HDR(i) processing component?

My desire is not to create bombastic HDR images. I only wish to control the complete range of tones available when I scan an image, especially from negative films.

Thanks, John

Dear John,

If you want to upgrade to our archive suite workflow you can purchase the Archive Suite SE as an upgrade in our web-store.
It includes SilverFast SE Plus and the SilverFast HDR image processing software.

In case you need 48bit images for processing in Photoshop you could upgrade to SilverFast Ai Studio or the full Archive Suite.
The full ArchiveSuite includes SilverFast Ai Studio and SilverFast HDR Studio.

All software products are available as demo versions from ourdemo download page.

kind regards,
