Is there a reason why positive film (slide film) is only available
in sensitivities from ISO 100 to ISO 400?

Highest ISO film for positives is Fuji's Provia 400X.
For negatives there is ISO 800 and ISO 1600 film.
But no ISO 800 or ISO 1600 slide film.

Is this a technical limitation in the chemistry of E6 film?
It is physically not possible to manufacture higher than ISO 400 slide film?

Dear Mr Fantastico,

The availability of NegaFix profiles depends on the available calibration films.
Only a limited number of Films are available for profiling and only those can be offered in the selection.
There are separate calibration films for every ISO value and therefor values for which no calibration film had been produced can not be offered "off the shelf".
Profiles not available will have to be created manually in the SilverFast Ai (studio) NegaFix expert settings.

I am very sorry, but I think there is a complete misunderstanding.
This question had nothing to do with NegaFix or SilverFast.

I will try again:

I am asking a general question about slide film and why they
are only available in ISO 100, 200 and 400 sensitivities.

Fuji and Kodak do not have any ISO 800 or 1600 slide film available on the market.
But there is negative films with ISO 800 and 1600.

I was just curious about the reason.

Is there a technical limitation in the chemistry of slide film that does not allow
it to be manufactured with ISO 800 or 1600 sensitivity?
Or is there another reason there is no slide film with higher than ISO 400?

Maybe I should have asked this question in the "Imaging in general" forum instead
to avoid the confusion. Or maybe Fuji or Kodak are in a better position to answer
this question.

Slide films with Iso 800 and 1600 had been available in the past.
When I asked one of our photographers he even showed me his "lucky Iso 1600 Kodak slide film".

These films however are no longer available probably for economic reasons.
They have been very expensive and probably have not been purchased enough to continue production.

Very interesting, thank you for the information.
So it is only for economic reasons and not because of a limitation
in the chemistry of slide film, like I thought.
I learn something new here every day.
