I was presenting the SilverFast software to a client here in France. (I downloaded the demo version)
He has an AGFA DuoScan T-2500. This scanner produces really nice results regarding the resolution when using AGFAs FotoLook software.
He was surprised by the results regarding the functionality and color when using SilverFast.
Unfortunately the resolution seemed to be completely interpolated and VERY bad when scanning dia-positives at higher resolutions. We scanned the same dia once using FotoLook and once using SilverFast. (same resolution/size settings) WHAT A DIFFERENCE! In the SilverFast scan were all details lost. BUT at least the colors were fine.
The client smiled at me and said: "Well - I prefer to get higher resolution results than functionality before spending 1000 Euro for this software."

Whats wrong? Does the SilverFast software not support the T-2500 correctly?
Is the demo version limited in resolution?
Is it a bug?

With best regards,

Patrick Exner

First off, I might be wrong <g>

My readings of the posts here and the SF manual combined with my own experiments seem to indicate that Interpolation is *always* turned on when using SF *unless* you use the slider control to select a hardware based resolution.

I was getting very grainy results when scanning APS film with SF (Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED) but not when scanning with the bundled NikonScan 3.1.2 software. At the time, I assumed that the low quality of the film was to blame. Since then however, it has occurred to me that there might exist a conflict between the APS film grain and SF's interpolation. I plan to rescan the APS film using hardware resolution to see if the 'grain' goes away.

In your case, I would again suggest scanning the film using a hardware resolution. I suspect that you'll see excellent results with SF this way.

regards
Gregory
