Printer Calibration problem

Postby WokingWounded » Thu Mar 18, 2010 12:53 pm

I recently upgraded to Archive Suite and have completed the installation for my Canon 8800F scanner and Canon iP5200 printer. I calibrated the scanner using an iT8 target and get very true on-screen images. I then calibrated the printer. However, using the generated profile I get an obvious green cast on the prints. I have set my Ai module (using 6.6.1r5) in the Options CMS tab to ICM for Input to Internal, Internal to monitor and internal to output. I have set the profiles to the generated profile from the iT8 target for the scanner, Adobe RGB (1988) for internal and the profile generated in the calibration for the printer. (By the way, the software offers six standard profiles for the printer named "Canon iP5200 MP2, PR1, PR2, PR3, SP2 and SP4". Nowhere can I find anything that tells me what these should be used for and the differences between them - am I missing something?). The instructions make it clear that the printer should be set up so that colour management on the printer is off. I think I have done this by selecting "Manual" in the Color / Intensity option and then unchecking Enable ICM (Windows Image Color Management) in the associated Set menu. I also use Photoshop Elements 8 (although I have not imported the SF module into PSE). Again, the pictures look good on screen in PSE but show the same green cast when printed using the calibrated profile.

What am I doing wrong?!!

PS I tried printing with the SF Canon iP5200 PR2 profile and it gives me a red cast!

Dear WokingWounded,

please make sure you let the calibration targets you printed out dry for at least 24h before you calibrate them.

You should ask Canon support if the colormanagement is really shut off and no longer uses an internal color profile with the settings you used.

kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn.

Thanks. Yes I did make sure the prints dried for 24hrs+. I'll get onto Canon support.
By the way, can you tell me what the 6 SF profiles provided for the iP5200 in the SF package do? What is the difference between them?

we use different profiles for transparency, reflective and Kodachrome.
These profiles are required for scanners if they are not calibrated with an IT8 target.
They are required even if a Scanner does not support a certain mode, thanthe profile is just a copy&paste dummy.

kind regards

I know this. I purchased (and have been using) IT8 targets for Reflective, transparency and Kodachrome from Lasersoft when I upgraded to Archive Suite.
