profiling hp 8450 printer- ?how to disable color management

I'm trying to profile my printer and am having a problem with setting up. Any help would be appreciated.

Mac 10.6.1
Silverfast Ai Studio 6.6.1r3 with iT8 calibration target (silverfast)
hp Photosmart 8450 series printer- wireless via Airport Express

When using the Printer Profile Wizard it says " Most important: disable any color management and color adjustment settings in the printer driver".

After clicking "Print Printer Profiling Target" the print dialogue allows me choices under "Color Matching"- either "Vendor Matching" or "Color Sync".

If I pick "ColorSync" I am then asked to choose a profile (of printer-paper combination). If I choose "Vendor Matching", then under the "Paper Type/Quality" tab I am asked to choose for Color: either "Colorsmart sRGB", "Adobe RGB (1998)", or "Application Managed Colors."

I'm thinking that I should choose "Color Sync" and my printer-paper combination from the vendor supplied profiles. Am I correct?

Thank you for your time.

David O.

Hi David

Basically all your questions are answered in this document: http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu/printercalibration_en_2008-11-17.pdf

You are correct but I believe there is more than that to operate the printer calibration. SilverFast users are strongly encouraged to go over the document I have linked above.

If you have troubles with the driver itself I suggest you download the specific documentation from the manufacturer's site.

Cheers

I've gone over that document, and understand it pretty clearly.

The Photosmart driver (specifically for me the B9100) has different options for output.
Under "Color Matching" there are only two options: ColorSync or Vendor Matching (I'm assuming Vendor matching is correct). You can select the profile (obviously) under ColorSync.

You can select the paper type under "Printer Features", as well as (under "Feature Sets:" "Paper 1" selected):

"Color"
-ColorSmart/sRGB
-ColorSync
-Grayscale
-Application Managed Colors (I assume this is correct)
-Adobe RGB (1998)

and "Color Model"
-Color
-Color + W
-Advanced Color

Also under "Feature Sets:" is "Color Options" where there are a ton of ColorSync profiles for papers and custom options... what to do here, if at all?

Which setting for "Color Model", and are the other settings correct? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

As we do not have that perticular printer model available, I would suggest you contact HP about the correct way to disable the internal RIP/color profile.
