Yellow and Blue bands when scanning / the banding bug

I have found references to this problem on other sites but I still have no idea what's going on.
When scanning 6x7 negatives with Microtek M1 / Silverfast v6.6.11b running MacOSX 10.5.7
I get a blue line which runs the entire length of the file, left to right. There is also a wider yellow line/band running top to bottom on the right hand side of the negative.
I scanned a 4x5 transparency with no problem, I also scanned a document in reflective mode with no problem, so my thoughts are that its not a hardware issue ?
In the last two days I have uninstalled, deleted preferences - reinstalled and updated the Silverfast software, but I still get the lines.

does anyone have any thoughts or shared experiences with this ?
thanks guys !!

Dear hadlowsmith,

We have seen some similar problems reported by other users. Their problem was actually a hardware problem but every case is different. The best thing you can try now is to make a test with ScanWizard to see if you also have the same lines there.
If that is the case, it is likely that this lines might be related to hardware issues.

Cheers

just an idea, have you checked the calibration area for dust ?

Thanks all, I dusted the light source with my blower brush and the blue line has gone. the yellow line is still there however - but I can live with that for the minute.

two sources that i have heard for the yellow edge band - light source getting old ( try shifting the film over to see if it goes away., make sure the lamp has been on for 15-20 minutes if CCF) , Dust in the optical path - most likely the calibration area under the edge of the scan bed plate, or possibly in the mirrors inside the scanner.
