Silverfast SE 48 bit problem

Postby Charles Boileau » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:36 pm

Silverfast SE 48 bit problem
Hi,

So I recently got a V700 and I've been messing around with Silverfast SE in order to get used to the software. I've encountered a few problems that I have been able to resolve.

One problem is persisting: It seems I can do HDR 48 bit RAW (blah blah blah) scans, which would be great as I am used to working with raw data. So when I scan my 4x5 negative something odd happens, it opens up as a negative image in photoshop.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? Is it supposed to be like this? Am I missing something? Should I upgrade to a different software?

Thanks!

Dear Mr Boileau,

This is the way "48bit HDR" files are supposed to work.
No filters or changes other than scratch and dust removal will be applied.

48bit file processing is available in SE plus and Ai Studio.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

I understand that, but the image comes out scanned as a negative image (not positive). How are you supposed to use this image afterwards?

I'll post a link to an image when I get to my office

Dear Mr. Boileau ,

this is also a normal behaviour when using 48 BIT HDR Mode as my colleague already pointed out this mode is meant as a RAW format so the images the Scanners "sees" is not manipultaed though the NegaFix does not happen as well. Please note that you can use our SilverFast HDR Software to convert these images using the same NegaFix feature found in SilverFast for an optimised workflow.

I have a plustek OpticFilm 7200i and am using the bundled Silverfast software. I am trying to scan negatives using the 48 bit colour option, the prescan looks fine but the scan comes back as invalid image. an anyone advise on how to fix this problem?

Dear Mr Dixon,

please note that 48bit images can not be opena with any software.
Normally only professional imaging software like Photoshop CS can open this type of image.

kind regards.
