Proper process for multiple iT8 calibrations?

I searched the forums for a good answer but really can not find any posts that address this issue. If anyone knows of a good way to do the following, please point me in the right direction.

I am using SilverFast Ai 5.5.2r20 (yes, I know it's old but it still works fine) and have previously calibrated it with a good SilverFast iT8 target ("regular" Kodak Ektachrome). The calibration routine runs fine and the scans produced are also fine.

I recently received a collection of slides from my father that are Kodachrome so I ordered a new target which I recently received from LaserSoft. Now I am trying to calibrate the scanner using that target and it's profile (E090111) but I am having troubles doing so.

Not only do I receive the message "Calibrating gray scale. Error: gray scale sampling unacceptable! Please cancel and correct the current frame position." but I believe I may be using incorrect settings to calibrate the second target.

I know the frame is positioned correctly (I have gone back and forth between the two targets and I am placing the frame exactly the same on both and one works but the other does not), I am selecting the correct profile (the number is right there on the target) and I am performing a prescan before running the calibration routine.

I hope the answer is that 5.5.2r20 can not use Kodachrome.

So, what's the best way to calibrate and use two different targets and profiles? Can the previous calibration be causing the new calibration to fail? I went into Option, CMS, and changed the Colour Management setting for Scanner -> Internal to None instead of Calibration but the routine still failed. I also made sure to uncheck "use calibration" in the calibration routine before pressing the start button. Nothing seems to get past the problem with the gray scale error message. I can only assume I am doing something wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Kevin

Dear Kevin,

A very good quesiton you post here. In fact you are doing everything well, the only problem here is that the Kodachrome calibration was implemented in the latest version of SilverFast. Since you are using an older version, you can not perform the IT8 calibration nor use a Kodachrome profile.

In this case you have to update SilverFast to the latest version available, please proceed to the update area at: https://www.silverfast.com/get_update/en.html, download and install the latest version of the program.

After that you should be able to calibrate the scanner using your Kodachrome slide.

Cheers
