problem with overexposed pictures inside the selection

once I select something for scanning, the selection in preview window gets very contrasty and utterly overexposed, even when I pull the exposure in Negative palette down and use brightness, contrast and curves, still very contrasty and bright, while the rest of the scan that is not inside the selection is perfectly fine. it works ok with some pictures that need some contrast but most of the time it bothers me. the exposure seems to change depending on whats in the selection, i.e. if I select some white areas around the film strip, it gets better. anyway is there any way how to disable this sort of auto exposure feature for good, a way to just simply scan my perfectly exposed pictures the way they are and avoid the horrible auto adjustments I am fighting with? I am using SF SE v6.5.0r4e on Win XP with Epson 700. I tried the whole options menu and didnt find any clue. Thanks a lot for your help with my silly problem and please excuse my terrible english

Dear Adam,
Negafix has an automatic orange mask elimination included, which searches for the lightest and darkest point in the current scan frame and maps them to white and black.
Can you draw the scan frame such that it includes reasonable white and black parts of your image?
What is the scan result then?
Best regards
Martin

Dear Pedrog,
there does not need to be a "true" white or black point the software searches for the lightest and darkest point.
If you experience any problems you can deactivate the automatic correction in the
NegaFix dialog.
Depending on the version you have this can be done directly in the
NegaFix settings dialog or the
Negafix Expert Settings.
