Hi,

new user of SF. I'm having issues configuring it. My set-up.
Mac OSX 10.4, MacBook Pro (Intel), Epson V750 flatbed, setting up to scan using negfix in either AI 6.4 or demo mode of AI Studio 6.5

Problem:
Select option>CMS>put in settings, when I either apply or save I get error message saying that Input-> Intenal:colorsync, in order to work properly Scanner (transparent) is missing. BUT that menu box is greyed out and I can't select it or put anything in. I've tried all variants but I still get the same dialog box.
I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong here, but I have no idea what. Help!

em, are you trying to scan negatives or positives ? There won't be an input profile for negatives and you can only view/output to a colorspace. For positives or reflective there can be a profile of the scanner via an IT8 target.

I'm setting up to scan negatives.
I'm using Ian Lyons and Mark Segals articles on neg scanning in SilverFast to guide my set-up, which is why this is confusing me. In both their articles they state that setting the CMS dialog box is important.
Maybe you can help me here.
My understanding is that negs cannot be profiled, you cannot really tag a profile to a negative, but once you move the file into Photoshop - which I will be doing - it makes sense to convert it to a suitable working space. I use AbobeRGB for 99% of my work. However, in Ian and Marks setup for the CMS you are assigning a profile to the neg scan, say AdobeRGB, in the CMS dialog. Is that correct?
The canned neg profile provided by Silverfast is an approximate profile to get the scan within ballpark. This is due to the many variabilities of neg exposure and development. This is why the scan itself cannot be tagged with an appropriate scanner profile.
If this is the case - and again, please excuse my ignorance here - do I really need to be setting the CMS module for scanning negs?
Of course, if I do, why is the CMS module not letting me save or apply any changes? What will happen when I go to setup the CMS to scan transparencies?
Can you define what you mean by colourspace?

I do have a screen grab of my CMS setting and the error msg, but I'm not sure how to upload an image here (see, I'm not too good with this either!!).

You are actually assigning the working space so SF uses the same working space as you will use in PS to output the scan data to the screen and for editing.

Not sure why you get the error if you are set up exactly the same as Ian. First pass is to delete the prefs folders and start it back up.
