Batch Scanning

Postby dexter.caeiro » Tue Sep 25, 2007 5:31 am

Hi,

I have about 100 rolls of film that have to be scanned on a Umax powerlook 180/ PF1800 AFL scanner. I want to use silverfast for this job. However I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to do batch scanning.

Basically I want to make corrections on the first frame - scan resolution, filter, size etc. I then want silverfast to scan all the 36 frames using the same settings. I tried to use the job manager, but it takes a resolution of 228dpi instead of the 1800 dpi that I need.

Also is there a way of preventing the software from doing a frame check as soon as I insert the film or click on prescan? It will save me a lot of time.

Thanks

Dear dexter.caeiro

(a) You can copy parameters from one JobManager entry to another (or more).
Or (b) you could set up one frame to have the options you want, then save them, then apply them to other JM entries.
Or (c) even prior adding the images to the JM, you could set up the first frame to have the options you want, then duplicate that frame with its settings by Alt-clicking (new frames will retain settings of the "copy from" frame).
Or (d) You set up your frame as in (b) and save, then declare this the default setting in > Options > General.

"Frame check"? You mean the scanner counting the number of images on the film strip? I'm afraid that's a firmware/driver function that SilverFast - as an application layer piece of software - cannot influence.

Thanks Sonny for the reply. Will try out the options that you have mentioned. However I wish there was some more simple option like v**s**n has. Like Scan>Batch or Scan>list.

As far as counting the no. of frames is concerned, this does not happen with either v**s**n or Cyberview X that I have also used on the same scanner.

So that one remains unresolved. This becomes quite a problem as everytime I insert a roll, Silverfast counts the No. of frames.

Thanks anyway for you help.

Regards

Dexter
