Help needed re Error: Memory Could Not Be Read

I am using Silverfast Ai 6.5.0r4a with an Epson v750 and Photoshop CS2 on Windows XP. When I launch Silverfast, whether from Photoshop or on its own, I get the following message:

The instruction at "0x7c911de" referenced memory at "0x0072005f". The memory could not be "read".

The number/letter combination in the message differs depending on whether I try to launch Silverfast on its own or from Photoshop.

I am not having any problem running Epson Scan, which is what I am now using until this gets fixed.

I have read the previous thread on this issue: run-time-error-after-installation-t4276.html

I have the latest Windows updates and I have run a virus scan which reveals that my computer is clean (no viruses, spyware, etc). I have uninstalled Silverfast, turned off my virus software, shut down my computer, and rebooted and reinstalled Silverfast. The reinstallation was done from the Silverfast install file on my computer. It was not done from a new download because I can't find a page that lets me input my serial number and re-download the programme, as distinct from a page that lets me download updates.

I would appreciate suggestions on what to do next. Do I need a new Silverfast install file and, if so, how do I get one?

Thanks.

I deleted the Prefs folder and I'm still getting the error.

Does anyone from Lasersoft monitor this forum, or should I just contact technical support?

I've now referred this to technical support. Their initial recommendation was to reinstall the SilverFast software from version 6.5.0r6. This did not fix the problem. I am now waiting for further advice from them.

Technical Support came up with a solution, which I am posting here in case others run into this problem.

They told me to detach from my computer any other scanners, all-in-1 machines or graphic tablets. In my case, there was nothing that needed detaching.

Next, they said to go to C: - Documents and Settings - My User Name - Application Data (ensuring that hidden folders and files are visible in Tools - Folder Options View)

Once in Application Data, they said to delete the folder "LaserSoft Imaging".

This worked, although it was necessary to first reboot my computer.

If someone knows what the folder LaserSoft Imaging does, I would be interested in knowing.

Cheers.
