automatic orientation detection

I am using a DigitDia 400 with SF Ai 6.4.3r8 and SF Launcher, Windows XP
I have been scanning several thousands if color slides beginning in December 2005. The automatic orientation detection feature worked quite sufficient. Suddenly there were problems (with "current frame" as well as with stored frames for landscape or portrait). I contacted SF support but thex couldn't come up with a solutiom.
Finally I made a new installation (including a delete of all prefs) and the problem was fixed.
Now, a couple of weeks later, I encounterd the same problem. This time, however, reinstallion didn't fix the problem. I've tried everything, incuding an update to r9 (although this version has bad iSRD results) but to no avail. Suprisingly, portrait orientation seems to work, but landscape won't. For all landscape slides the software switches to standard frame (35mm by 35mm).
I am left with dozens of boxes of slides that I won't be able to scan in batch mode unless I manually switch them all to portrait orientation.
Did anyone have the same problems?
