Scanning issues

I installed the latest version of SilverFast Ai. version 6.4.3r8
Using Photoshop, I import for scanning. Everything seems to be working fine, the prescan works, all the functions are working. However, I press scan and it goes through it's process (and descreens when it's not even activated???) but when it's finished it's long long process of descreening, I get the following error:
Could not complete the import command because of a problem with the acquisition module interface.

Any idea's why it might be doing that?

Also, descreening taking wayyyyyyy too long. I'm on a PC, P4 3.6 GHz w/ a gig of ram... this process should NOT be taking so long. If I have to wait 5 minutes to descreen an 8.5 x 11, I might as well start searching for new scanning software now.

There are a couple of things you might look at to resolve this problem.

Check to see how much memory you are allowing Photoshop to use (Since you only have 1 gig set the limit around 50%). Make sure the Photoshop scratch disk is on a separate drive from that of the OS swap file and it should have lots of free space.

Follow the process in the FAQ's for deleting the SilverFast Prefs.
http://www.silverfast.com/faq/1029/en.html (Note: In Windows XP the folder will be located here: C:\Documents and Settings\[Your logon name]\Application Data\Lasersoft Imaging\SilverFast\Prefs)

Scanning can be a memory intensive process, especially when using de-screening. The de-screening process does take time, but the high quality results are worth the wait.
