Adjustments don't work and are ignored in Scan

I do a pre-scan, use the adjustments tools to lighten/darken etc. and then do the scan. I see the effect of the adjustments on the pre-scan but the adjustments do not affect the scan. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Rich :(

Rich,

In a few words, "this should work". Pre-scan; adjustments; final scan = stellar results.

What version of SilverFast are you using, what OS, and what scanner? Did you do any calibration or are you using the default settings in SilverFast?

RAG, Thank you for asking, I should have provided the particulars up front.

I am using SilverFast Ai 6.4.3r8 with an epson 4990 Photo scanner feeding the result into Photoshop CS2.

I have set the Gradation Curves to Mid Tone -20 Contrast -50 Highlights +50 Shadow -50 which the preview shows to have a major effect on the image. My scan is 16 bit Greyscale, No filter, Image Type Standard.

I do the scan and the image that goes into Photoshop is a "plain"scan without any result from the Gradation Curve effects that I set.

Your suggestions about this situation very welcome.

Thanks, Rich

Rich,

Just for giggles try scanning the image in color Vs grayscale. I have the same scanner, but I am using AI Studio. There should not be this sort of functionality difference between AI and AI Studio though, so I suspect something else is causing the problem.

Do you by chance have an all in one printer (Copy; scan; fax; print) connected in addition to your Epson scanner?

Hi RAG, I do not have a multi-function printer. I'm tied up for a couple of days and will try the color versus greyscale scan after that. I'll look forward to more of your thoughtful ideas. Thanks
