Can't scan with Nikon LS-1000

When I try to do a prescan with my Nikon 35mm FIlm Scanner LS-1000, this message appears: "Cannot measure the exposure values".
After searching this forum, I tried to disable the automatic exposure by pressing the "sun" button in the scan window. But then instead this messagee appears when I try to prescan: "Cannot send command: <set window>".
What to do?
Scanning whithout Prescanning first works fine.
I have tried deleting all SilverFast-related files and then reinstalling. I have also tried deleting the Prefs-files, using an older version of Photoshop (v 7), using the SF Launcher instead of Photoshop, etc ...
I have the latest version of SF (6.4.3r6b) and the OS (Mac OS X 10.4.3) and Photoshop v 8.0.1.
