i have installed this demo version but sadly when i press the scan button in photoshop, silverfast just quits on me. the prescan seems to work ok. is this me or software issue?

The demos are limited in time. In your case and for other users who downloaded a demo for Macintosh, the date was already over. New fresh demos to download will be available very soon (release number greater than 602r08)

For this purpose, you can use the semi-automatic update function by clicking on the "i" button on the left hand side of the preview window.
