Everything looks ok in the overview window, byt then at the prescan
the frame offset isnt right (see image), can i change the offsett manually, or att all?. if not when is it going to be applied to silverfast, even nikon scans has it implented, to bad in that case if silverfast missed such a function to it?s powerful program.

it really frustratin when im going to scan a lot of medium format film
and i cant cut the film down into single frames

(Using Photoshop 7, Latest version of silverfast 6, Nikon Coolscan 8000ED)

Looking forward for an fast answer,

Best Regard?s Peter

Dear Peter H?rlin -
The screen shot looks realy strange and I can imagine, that you are frustrated. I checked the offset with our newest version on Win XP and Mac 9.2 and I didn?t found this strange offset. It is true, that there is around the the prescan a black or white frame. There is no possibility to change this. But if you drag a frame at one prescan, the position will be allways the same and the next prescan of another picture will fit nearly exact in the frame you have draged. Please check the film holder and the position of the film strip. If the worse offset still appears - please send the log file of the SilverFast folder and we will check it.

with regards

Christoph

in general, the default Nikon frames are incorrect and useless.

I have a Nikon 4000ED. an example of the problem is the default frame for APS film in Landscape orientation (I measured these last week);

1. top border is 20 points too low.
2. height is 20 points too short.
3. width is 20 points too long.

a similar problem is true also for 35mm film. I have reported it to Lasersoft but they say that the default frames are provided by the Nikon MAID libraries. they claim that they can do nothing to improve the situation.

default frames are used by the Job Manager when frames are added to the queue. since the default frames are useless, I have asked Lasersoft for the ability to copy/paste frames in the Job Manager queue. unfortunately, they said that this is not possible. this of course means that the Job Manager is of no use to those of us using Nikon scanners and SilverFast Ai (NikonM).

Nikon scanner people are always going to have problems with the default frames. add to that the non-durable nature of the APS adapter that I'm seeing (the plastic cogs in the adapter have stripped 3 times in normal use within the last year -- very expensive to fix) and I would recommend that people try another brand of scanner.
