Color scans work fine; B&W scans appear corrupted

I scan color negatives fine with SilverFast Ai Studio 8.8 on an Epson V750 in a Windows 10 environment. (I did a few hours yesterday successfully).

My problem is scanning B&W negatives. I attempted to upload an attachment [in PDF] which shows the scanned image but I get a msg saying "The extension pdf is not allowed." (?)]

During the setup for the scan SilverFast presents (via the pre-scan) a faithful rendition of the image. Things looks normal.

The scanned image looks nothing like the image on negative. The image is corrupted. This problem is repeatable.

I use Workflow Pilot.

Source: Negative
Task: Edit 48---> 24 bit
Vendor: Ilford
Filmt Type: FP4Plus
ISO/ASA: 125

I otherwise take default settings.

Any ideas?

Thx

Fred

Dear Fred,

Is maybe the infrared based scratch and dust removal activated (iSRD)?
The infrared beam of the scanner unfortunately is not able to penetrate the silver halide emulsion of B&W films.
The effect is described here.
You can use the software sided SRDx for this film type.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Yes, not having iSRD turned off for B&W negatives was the root cause.

Many thanks.
