The Silverfast Web site has confusing statements about iSRD and SRDx applied to Kodachrome slides. The following page implies that SilverFast iSRD should be used with Kodachromes:

But the page for SRDx says:

"A special case regarding dust and scratch removal are black and white film and Kodachrome film. Unlike color slides or color negatives, the scanner's infrared rays can not permeate through the film emulsion, due to the silver halide layer contained in the film. This means that infrared based tools like iSRD, ICE1, FARE1 or MagicTouch1 can not be used here. SRDx has been developed especially for these cases. SRDx ensures an effective removal of dust and scratches even for B/W film and Kodachromes."

For batch scanning on an Coolscan 5000 (whose Digital ICE was marketed by Nikon as being suitable for Kodachromes), should I used SRDx or iSRD???

Dear customer,

Yes sorry this in deed is a little confusing.
There are several different Kodachrome emulsions.
Some of them are so dense that the infrared channel can not penetrate them.
For those you can use SRDx.
Also the Nikon LS9000 is a special case, because it has a very fine, high-quality infrared channel.

Basically you should test if a Kodachrome can be corrected using iSRD.
If that does not work switch to SRDx.
