Scanning Pauses if Silverfast Doesn't Have Focus

I've noticed this problem today for the first time i.e. it only seems to happen using 8.5.0r9.
If always scan my slides using Multi Exposure and Infrared so in total there are 3 passes (excluding the preview). If I set the scan going and then switch to say Photoshop, Silverfast will complete all three passes and save the file. If however I set the scan going and then switch to my browser, Firefox (running on a Mac) then it will complete the 1st pass but it won't start the infrared pass until I switch focus back to Silverfast, at which point it will immediately start the infrared scan. If however I then go back to my browser, when it completes the infrared pass it won't start the Multi Exposure pass until I again switch back to Silverfast. It only seems to do this when I'm using my browser and I'm not sure it does it all the time but certainly 85% of the time.
