Epson V800 and SilverFast SE

Trying to scan 35mm film negatives.
Windows 8.1 and an Epson V800 using the Epson 35mm negative holder.
SilverFast SE does not find the frames properly when selecting "Filmstrip 35mm". It selects them ok but the middle row can not be accessed. Click on a frames as much as you want and it will not highlight. Pre-scanning shows the 3 rows with 4 or 5 negatives AOK.
Tried selecting " Filmstrip 35mm holder" finds too many frames. I have 3 35mm negative strips in the holder with 4 frames each for a total of 12 frames. It finds ~20 frames all over the place.
The only thing that works somewhat is selecting "All frames". It finds all negative frames but I have to manually adjust every frame quite a bit.
Any thoughts?
